KPMG Bangladesh: The History of Rahman Rahman Huq

Rahman Rahman Huq, formerly KPMG in Bangladesh, was founded in 1962. This article covers the firm's history, its years in the KPMG network and the services it offers today.

Rahman Rahman Huq (RRH) is a chartered accountancy firm in Dhaka. Today it practises as an independent firm under its own name and describes itself as formerly KPMG in Bangladesh. People searching for KPMG Bangladesh are often looking for this firm. RRH wrote this article, which does not speak for KPMG. It covers the firm's history from its founding in 1962 and its years as KPMG in Bangladesh, then describes the audit, tax and advisory work it offers now.

KPMG is a trademark of KPMG International. This article uses the name only to describe the firm's past and to help readers find it. It draws on RRH's own website and on KPMG's published materials, and reflects the position at the time of writing.

Founded in 1962

According to the firm's About page, RRH was founded in 1962 by Rezaur Rahman, Saifur Rahman and Tashfin I Huq. The page describes more than six decades of helping to shape the accounting profession in Bangladesh by setting standards, developing talent and building trust. It also states that the firm has developed more Chartered Accountants than any other firm in Bangladesh. That is the firm's own statement; it has not been tested here against an independent count.

Joining the KPMG network in 2006

KPMG's own published materials give January 2006 as the point at which the firm became a member firm of KPMG International. A KPMG Bangladesh investment guide issued in July 2020 says the firm had been a member firm since January 2006 and was the first member firm in Bangladesh of any of the Big Four. RRH's website puts the same milestone in its own words: the firm became the first Bangladeshi firm to join a Big Four network, set a new benchmark for the profession and paved the way for global professional standards in Bangladesh.

Through those years the firm traded publicly as KPMG in Bangladesh, and its website still carries the news items it published under that name. The About page also says the firm earned the highest KPMG Audit rating for five consecutive years. Public sources do not let anyone check that rating or the years it covers, so this article reports it as the firm's claim.

This article gives no date for the change of name and does not discuss its background. It uses the firm's own wording from its website, "formerly KPMG in Bangladesh".
